Top 5 exercises to increase your vertical


Zach Levine, the NBA dunk champion has perhaps the highest vertical in the league right now with a max recorded vertical of 46 inches. Now what can you do to improve your vertical by 8-15 inches? See the top 5 plyometric exercises recommended by professional trainers and athletes:

1. Seated Box Jumps:

To perform the box jump, set up a bench next to a box about waist height. Simply sit on the bunch, with hands facing downwards, and explode up onto the box as shown above.

Set and reps: 3 sets of 10-12 jumps

2. Depth Jumps:

Similar to the box jump, this plyometric drill only requires a bench. You can even do this at your local park!

The height isn't as important; the most important portion of this jump is to make sure to minimize time on ground. As you drop from the bench, immediately focus on jumping as high as you can as shown above.

Set and reps: 3 sets of 10-12 jumps

3. Tuck Jumps:

The tuck jump is fairly straightforward. You simply should aim to jump as high as you can and concurrently thrust your knees to your chest as you explode upwards. However, technique is key. Make sure to land in the same position on each jump; furthermore it is important to swing your arms upwards as you jump to add more momentum.

Set and reps: 2 sets of 12-15 jumps

4. Uphill Sprints:

Uphill sprints help to increase explosiveness by driving a lot of muscle activity in a very short period of time, a key tenet to plyometric exercises. Therefore, Find a nearby hill and sprint up it with the mindset of explosiveness.

Distance: 10-15 meters

5. Jump Roping:

As a perfect starting exercise or even to finish to your workout, jump roping has been shown to increase your vertical jump. So grab a rope and jump!

Set and reps: 3 sets 30+ Jumps, with an optional 4th set to do as many jumps as you can
